Real Homes: An Interview With @thelittlevictorianhouse
It’s time to introduce the next Instagram interiors influencer in our Real Homes series: Tegan Dutton from @thelittlevictorianhouse.
Tegan shares snapshots of her charming Victorian property over on Instagram, where her followers are always delighted to find out about her completed transformations, next projects and latest bargain finds. With a love of dark colours and greenery, Tegan isn’t afraid to make bold statements whilst maintaining a fresh and cosy feeling.
She explains a little more about her gorgeous home, her favourite homeware stores, and where she finds inspiration…
How would you describe your interior style?
Victorian Character Property. I try to keep everything within the age of the house; I love dark colours and original features.
What was your first design project?
The fireplace. We ripped the old one out and got an eBay bargain cast iron one. Then we got new tiles. It made the living room feel so much cosier and stayed within the age of the property.
Where do you get your design inspirations from?
Instagram, the internet, TV… Anywhere! I know what I like, so I search for ideas with particular colours and style, drawing inspiration from them.
Where do you shop for homeware?
Homesense mostly. I also shop in Ikea, H&M, Wilko, Asda, Sainsburys Home, Wayfair and Next Home, and also charity shops.
What are the next plans for your home?
We are hopefully spraying our roll top bath pink this weekend… I am super excited for that!
How do you choose new window treatments?
I have always wanted a bay window with shutters (I always knew we would never have the budget for shutters – they are the dream!) But when I saw the blinds from Blinds Direct, I realised they gave a similar classy look without the price tag. They looked perfect in the bay window, inside and out! So affordable, and great quality too.
If you had £10,000 to spend on a piece of furniture or interior design, what would it be and why?
Shutters for the bay window, 100%! I would also want Chesterfield sofas and a log burner for the dining room.
What are your top tips for someone planning on renovating their home?
You should really think about what you want colour wise – don’t just paint it (because, like me, you might get bored after 6 months and have to repaint!) I would also say that in some cases, you buy cheap, but you’ll buy twice.
A great big thank you to Tegan for sharing her tips with us. We are delighted that she chose Blinds Direct for her brand new Woodlux Bright White With Tapes Faux Wood Venetian Blind. Be sure to visit Tegan’s Instagram account, @thelittlevictorianhouse, and let her know we sent you across.
