Five Tips To Refresh And Reset Your Home
We may already be a month into 2021 but for many, it doesn’t feel like a new year has really begun until the arrival of Spring. Well, I’m delighted to say, it’s very much on its way! Flowers are starting to sprout, and days are already getting lighter. Today, we’ll investigate how to refresh and reset your home ahead of the upcoming rebirth of the natural world.
1. Let the air in
Let’s face it, during the winter we mostly have the heating up and the windows firmly shut. Things may have become a bit fuggy around the home so let’s throw the windows open and let in some air.
Fresh air helps a room feel re-energised and in turn makes us feel lively and active. That said, its not always convenient to have the windows open and abandon all privacy. Fortunately, a Voile curtain – which is a delicate and elegant window furnishing made from sheer material – provides the ideal balance of privacy and light. These stylish, pretty curtains are perfect for rooms in need of natural sunlight, as they remove glare while maintaining peacefulness and privacy. Their graceful drape adds a sense of movement in the home helping with relaxation and mindfulness.
In addition, we have to mention our innovative and functional Allusion blinds. As tasteful as Voile curtains, Allusion blinds give you complete control over the levels of light entering your home. Providing subtle light diffusion during the day, a simple twist will darken so you can enjoy privacy and total darkness by night.
2. Enjoy colour
We can easily define the seasons by colour. Where Winter benefits from luxurious, deep colours – including rich reds and dark blues – Spring should reflect the abundance of light and the year’s seedlings breaking through the earth.
Spring colours to help you reset for the year and refresh your home should include pale, soft colours. Pale grey blues, natural greens, powdery pinks, and even soft yellow tones can help you enjoy the season and boost your mental and spiritual health.
You can also use colour well as part of a pattern. Flatter window dressings such as roller and Roman blinds provide great canvasses for an explosion of colour. What makes Spring that little easier to prepare for is many of its colours pair together very well. Favourites include sage green with dusky pink and the Pantone 2021 colours of the year, Ultimate Grey and Illuminating (a vibrant yellow hue).
A top tip for introducing spring colours into your home is to use easily changeable items. For quick wins take a look at our fantastic range of cushions and lampshades.
3. Make space
During the winter months we tend to introduce an excess of stuff into our homes. Be they Christmas novelties or extra blankets piled on sofas to keep out the cold, it’s time to tidy away and enjoy more open spaces.
Space helps us settle and gives us mental room to think. With many work-from-home jobs getting busier after the festive break, now is the perfect time for seasonal minimalism.
This minimalistic look is best suited for your home refresh when it revolves around neutral tones, enriched by strategic use of the colours listed above. With different neutral items in a space from sofas to the walls themselves, you can add a touch of Spring sophistication with a lightweight curtain in a beautiful natural tone.
4. A place for plants
It might sound cliché but any Spring refresh and reset must celebrate nature and the greenery in bloom.
Whether you have a large garden or a free windowsill in an apartment, brining plants into the home is good for the soul. In February, amaryllises are coming into to bloom and not long after the bounty of nature will be springing into life adding colour and calm to your space.
If you inhabit a smaller space, don’t be deterred from bringing plants indoors. Many plants including Jade Plant, Aloe and Peace Lilies are very easy to look after and don’t take up lots of room. You don’t need plants growing two metres tall to enjoy nature inside.
To build on this, look to use natural woods in the areas you place your plants. Three or four potted plants in front of some elegant real wood Venetian blinds will help tie everything together, creating a harmonious effect.
5. Sleep better
As we start to become more active in the warmer and lighter weeks of the year, sleep becomes increasingly important. Where many of use could keep our rooms dark enough with unlined curtains or blinds during the dark months, now is a great time to take advantage of the free blackout lining on many items found on the website. They’ll help keep out any unwanted light and help you get that perfect night’s rest.
Later this month we’ll be exploring the importance of sleep in a dedicated blog so be sure to keep an eye out for that!
Be daring this Spring. Refresh and reset your home to make the most of 2021 and enjoy the benefits that come with it. Don’t be afraid to mix things up around in your home, swap your furnishings, move furniture around remember a change is as good as a rest.
